This piece was a picture that I took on my grandpas farm from on top of a silo. The idea behind the piece is the adrenaline rush felt from looking out from the top of some place high. I decided to use a color scheme primarily composed of red because red is the color I associate with adrenaline. I used a palette knife for this piece because I wanted to create a hectic look to the lines in the piece. I used a blue back wash to contrast with the reds. I am pretty satisfied with the piece overall. I really like how the trees turned out and the fields. One thing I may go back and change is the tree directly in front of the pink and white shed. The tree just looks kind of weird to me. I really like how the blue backwash showed through the white sky. I think in this piece you can see the adrenaline because of the monochromatic color scheme and the lines. I am very pleased with this piece overall!
Overall I am pretty pleased with how this piece turned out. My technical objective was accomplished with the repetition of movement and the color scheme. I think the blue water color helped a lot in lightening the foreground to help bring the bodies to the front. I like the red lines of red in the body that help convey the motion in each separate picture and like how each picture flows to the net. I'm glad that I used more pen in the background because I also feel that the pen helped bring the background farther back. Compositionally I love the movement of the piece, which was the primary goal of the piece. I think that I was able to bring unity into each separate picture when I used pen and watercolor to soften the harshness of the lines separating each picture. My personal voice is spoken through out this entire piece. I would go back over my white gel pen on the reflections on the water though and maybe deepen the red on the top right body.
Material List: Photo transfer, photo references, acrylic paint, pen, white gel pen, a multipurpose board, and water color.
Project Objective Statement: I am using multiple photo transfers to show the motion of the start of a swim race; this piece will show the rush of motion that only takes a split second to actually occur. Technical Skills: I am using photo transfers to show motion and painting over the girls body with acrylic paint; the paint will be black, white, and red to show the emotionless adrenaline felt when you first here the sound at the start of a race. Compositional Skills: I will use the repetition of the body and colors diving into the water and the different images of one scene to show the motion of the body. Personal Voice: I will use my friend has a model diving into the water at a start of a race, painting her in black, white and red to show how she must leave behind her emotions at the start of a race and just allow the adrenaline carry her through the race. At this point in the piece, I have not applied that much pen. I think I have acheived my technical skill objective of showing the motion of the dive. It was hard having to cut each picture exactly right to fit on to the multipurpose board. There is a line right down the middle which distracts the eye of the viewer so I am planning on covering that up some with watercolor and pen. I have been using white, black and red for the color of her body. I like the mood that the colors convey, however I feel like the body isn't emphasized enough in the piece. I think I need to add more pen in the background to darken it and bring out the body. I think my personal voice definitely shows in this piece a lot. I am very pleased with the highlights of red in the swimmers body. To start this piece, I chose a red paper. While doing this piece I became very frustrated with the color of the paper because it was really hard to get the deep green that I needed in the tree and it was hard to draw a red ribbon on the red paper. I think that I accomplished my technical goal of creating texture in the pine needles well. I like how the closer pine needles you can see each needle, while in the back pine needles they all clump together to for shapes. I do not think I did a great job with the texture of the ribbon, The left side of the bow of the ribbon looks good to me because the ribbon looks soft and is blended much better. The right side of the ribbon actually got waxy as I tried to layer the colors and ended up just making me more frustrated. I think that I accomplished my compositional skills with the repetition in the bows. I also really liked how the lights turned out on the picture. I ended up leaving the lights for the very last and just used white prisma. I tried to layer the shine over top of the other color pencil first, however then went back lightly with the white gel pen. I think I accomplished my personal voice objective because looking at this piece makes me happy at the remembrance of past christmases. I also remember the christmas mornings when as a child I would wake up at 5:00am just so I could open my toys as soon as possible. Now I enjoy watching the look on my seven year old little brothers face as he opens his presents one by one.
Materials List: Prisma colors, red paper, white gel pen, and my photo reference that I took above. Project Objective Statement: I am creating a prisma color drawing to convey the adrenaline rush of christmas morning with the central colors of red, white and green, while particularly emphasizing the red in the piece. Technical Skills Objective: My technical skill plan is to focus of the texture of the pine needles and the softness of the red ribbons. Compositional Skills Objective: My composition skill plan is to repeat the texture of the pine needles within the piece, and also focusing on the main red ribbon in the foreground while repeating smaller ribbons in the background. Personal Voice: This piece is all about the adrenaline of Christmas morning. Whether this is for the parents from being awake all night wrapping presents, or for the children first seeing all of the presents under the tree. Christmas is such a fun morning for my family and I want to capture the simple beauty of the happiest of adrenaline moments. I think that I may have made a mistake choosing the bright red paper. I wanted something bold, however It has made blending the green and red a lot more difficult. I think I should have changed the color of the bow...or something. The texture of the pine needles is also been hard, Compositionally, I think the repetition of the bows has looked nice. My favorite part of the piece so far is the bright white lights. I think the piece does show my personal voice about christmas so far. I am struggling though to capture the roundness of the blue christmas ornament. |
