In November of 2014, I was in a car accident while turning left. The accident left me shaking with adrenaline as I quickly called me mother in shock. This moment was one of the scariest moments of my life, so naturally I had to include it as one of my summer projects. The accident was perspectively not horrible. Yes my car was financially totaled, but it was an older car. Neither I or the other driver was hurt. This piece ultimately helped me grow in my use of prisma colors. The car was actually black, so I used dark purples and blues. I was able to improve my techniques as a colored pencil artist. Overall I don't love the piece but I think that it really helped me improve my use of colors.
For this piece, I used the same idea and picture of my car accident. The medium used in this piece is acrylic paint. I definitely like this piece more than my prisma color one. I used multiple small canvases to symbolize how the car was broken. Some of the canvases were are actually thicker, emphasizing the spot where I was hit. One of my favorite parts of this piece was rainbow that a leaked fluid created. I think that I captured the rainbow very well in this piece. If I were to do this again, I would spend more time on the windshield; showing the seats behind it as well. This was one of my more successful. My favorite medium to use is acrylic paint because I feel that I can get a smooth blend in colors while still being able to pick out specific details.
The topic of this piece was submerged in water. The man is under the water, but almost at the surface. This allows his reflection is vivid above him. This piece is personal to me because I feel it represents the stillness and peace I feel when sitting at the bottom of a pool. This piece helped me grow in using acrylic paint while painting skin colors. It took me many tries to be able to make the perfect skin color, but I still feel like it could've been better.
With this piece, I used a variety of mediums. To start out, I did a photo transfer with a black and white image of the picture. The brick and railings are painted in acrylic paint. One part of the picture that I wish I had done a better job of was the railing. In the original picture, each of the railing columns were identical. Because the photo transfer wasn't exact, each of the columns came out slightly different than the next. If I were to do it again, I would go back to the original picture and sketch out each railing column so they were all the same. My little brother is the boy in the picture. I colored him in using prisma colors. I really wanted to make him pop out of the picture and make him the main focus of the piece. Overall I really liked the piece because I was able to incorporate many different mediums and capture the adventurous personality of my brother. This piece was actually the last piece that I did over the summer. The idea behind the piece was a monster under the bed. When thinking about my concentration, moments of adrenaline, I tried to think about the times that I feel adrenaline. One of my fears I of the dark; not necessarily the dark itself, but what could be in the dark that I cannot see. I thought about painting a very scary monster under the bed, however decided against it. One of the scariest things about the dark is how your imagination comes alive. I left the monster mostly dark, allowing the viewer to be able to have their own imagination run wild. I think that the dust ruffle was the hardest part to paint in this piece. In the original picture, the dust ruffle was more blue than purple. I think that the dust ruffle was actually one of the most successful parts of this piece. I also think that the hair turned out really well. I used a lot of texture when painting the hair and think that it turned out very well. Overall, I think that I used a very good composition in this piece and was able to use my colors well. This piece helped develop my acrylic skills as well.
This was the first ap summer art project that I completed. Sprouting from my concentration, the idea behind the piece was to show the moment of adrenaline that comes from the beginning of the race. I used acrylic paint for this piece. My main focus was to get the perspective right. This required me to perfectly arrange each of the lines and correctly size each black line/T on the bottom or wall of the pool. I think I did an okay job at this. The right side of the pool looks a little distorted. I think I was successful in shading the bottom of the pool with blue. To do this, I watered down the blue I had been using in order to paint the blue, but not completely cover the cream color of the bottom of the pool. The least successful part of the piece was the shape of the face of the swimmer. If you look closely, her nose is huge. I also became lazy at the end of this piece and quickly painted the lane ropes at the top of the piece red. Overall, I think this was my worse ap summer project, however I think I grew in my abilities of using acrylic paint.
